Capturing Kids Hearts
The core mission of Capturing Kids’ Hearts is to transform school environments by improving relationships, culture, and student outcomes. The initiative emphasizes relational capacity—helping adults model positive behaviors and cultivate trusting relationships with students. Strengthening trust between teachers and students is central; the program trains educators to build rapport and emotional safety so students feel known, respected, and supported. This relational foundation is presented as essential for both social-emotional growth and academic progress.
Capturing Kids’ Hearts also focuses on improving overall school culture. By teaching staff consistent practices and routines, the program aims to create predictable, positive school climates where expectations are clear and students are engaged. Part of this work includes building self-managing classrooms: classrooms where students internalize behavioral expectations, exercise responsibility, and participate in maintaining a productive learning environment. The program stresses accountability—helping educators implement systems that hold students and staff responsible for choices while preserving dignity and respect.
Academic improvement is treated as a natural outcome of healthier relationships and stronger culture. The training links social-emotional strategies to measurable gains in student performance, suggesting that when students feel connected and safe, they are more able to focus, participate, and learn. Additionally, Capturing Kids’ Hearts incorporates trauma-informed care principles, recognizing that many students come to school with adverse experiences that affect behavior and learning. The program provides frameworks for responding sensitively to trauma, reducing reactivity, and supporting students’ emotional regulation.
